Why I’m Running…

It was a revelation to me six years ago that our local government wasn’t working. Frankly, I didn’t want to believe it. But the deeper I dived into local policy and politics, the more I learned it was true.

I began advocating in earnest that our leaders focus on their core responsibilities and improve our quality of life through evidence-based, rational decision-making. I engaged on many levels.

In 2019, as a result of this experience and leadership, I was appointed to the Homeless Commission and the Solano Avenue Business Improvement District (BID) Advisory Board, where I have served as Chair since 2023. In 2020, I ran for the District 5 council seat.

Collaboration, active listening, humility, and persistence have proven invaluable in all of these experiences.

In addition to my advocacy work with fellow residents, my perspective on Berkeley government is heavily influenced by having raised two children here. I know how important good schools, safe public spaces, and well-maintained parks and streets are.

As a 17-year tenant in a rent-controlled Berkeley apartment, a 7-year owner in a Berkeley home prior to that, a tenant in three other cities, and having been a Realtor, I have a unique, well-informed, and valuable perspective on housing policy.

As someone who grew up in a financially challenged working-class family, and who has never fully recovered financially from the Great Recession, I bring a unique perspective to a city like Berkeley where income and wealth disparities are large.

In short, I’m ready to serve the people of District 5 and Berkeley on Day One, with all my heart, with the values born of my life experiences and the good judgment born of my professional work, civic engagement, and leadership. Please join me… For a Government as Good as its People.
